I recently re-stumbled onto Frank Mitchell's fabulous genealogy site called The Sloan Connection. His work over the last 30 years is really phenomenal on this family line.

Of course there's really no such thing as a single family crest, since each generation evolves the design as families mingle. Notwithstanding that fact, family crests are positively fascinating to discover and oo-and-ah over. For whatever reason, nothing makes you really feel that connection to the middle ages like seeing your family crest.

Sometime late tonight, I will be re-indexing the database. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't do something silly and lose the whole thing. Yes, I've taken three backups this afternoon, but knowing my luck, I'll kill it, anyway.

UPDATE (8:30): Only one little (and thankfully manageable) hiccup thus far. Some links will be a little off or broken for another hour or two, but everything should be resolved this evening. The coffee's brewing ;)

UPDATE (11:30): It's looking like the re-indexing is complete. If you notice a broken link, please do let me know.

My mother recalls Maurice Fletcher, Jr., after whom Fletcher Field is named in or near Clarksdale, Ms. He was married to Lillie, who people referred to as Aunt Lillie.

I found Lillie Eileen Dickey, daughter of William E. Dickey, son of James Wilder Dickey, but I don't know where these Dickey relatives fit in with the ones I've identified already. I know there is a relation somewhere!

They started out in South Carolina, migrated to Tennessee, and ultimately settled in Mississippi.
